Contract

Agreement to These Terms

01

These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of Direct Control Lab, including our website, host apps, controller apps, browser tools, remote-session services, diagnostics, billing flows, support pages, and related features.

By creating an account, downloading an app, starting a host, opening a controller, subscribing, or otherwise using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you use the service for a company or other organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.

If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the service. Additional terms may apply to marketplace downloads, in-app purchases, beta builds, open-source components, or third-party services.

Remote control

The Service

02

Direct Control Lab provides tools for connecting a controller device to a host computer so the user can view, control, test, support, or operate that host device. The service may use local network routes, peer-to-peer WebRTC paths, signaling services, relay services, diagnostics, subscriptions, and platform permissions.

The service is intended for lawful control of computers you own, manage, administer, or are expressly authorized to access. You are responsible for the devices you connect, the permissions you grant, and the actions performed during your sessions.

  • You must stop a session if you no longer have authorization to control the host.
  • You must not use the service to monitor another person without clear permission.
  • You must respect operating-system prompts and platform security controls.
  • You should close sensitive information before allowing another person to view or control your device.
  • You are responsible for local laws, workplace rules, school rules, and device-owner policies that apply to your session.

Access

Accounts, Eligibility, and Security

03

You may need an account to use certain features. You must provide accurate information, keep credentials secure, and promptly update information that changes. You are responsible for activity under your account unless the activity results from our failure to use reasonable security measures.

You must be at least 13 years old to use the service. If the law where you live requires a higher age, you must meet that higher age or use the service with appropriate parent or guardian involvement.

  • Use strong authentication and do not share session links or one-time codes with people who should not access your device.
  • Immediately end sessions and rotate credentials if a device is lost, stolen, compromised, or used by someone without authorization.
  • We may require additional verification for account deletion, billing changes, suspicious access, or security-sensitive support requests.
  • We may suspend or limit access when needed to protect users, the service, or third parties.

Commercial terms

Subscriptions, Billing, and Renewals

04

Direct Control Lab may offer free, trial, monthly, annual, promotional, or paid subscription plans. The current public pricing is $8 monthly or $80 yearly unless a different price is shown at checkout, in an Apple purchase sheet, or in a written enterprise agreement.

Monthly billing at $8 for 12 months equals $96. Yearly billing at $80 saves $16 compared with twelve monthly payments, which is equivalent to two months free. Taxes may apply. Prices may vary by region, platform, currency, storefront, promotion, or subscription group.

The Subscription Terms at https://compcontroll.org/subscription-terms provide the dedicated agreement for auto-renewal, affirmative consent, cancellation, renewal notices, refunds, taxes, and billing records.

Apple purchases

Apple subscriptions and in-app purchases are processed by Apple. Renewal, cancellation, refund, price-change consent, family sharing, and billing controls are managed through the user's Apple account and Apple's policies.

Web purchases

Web subscriptions may be processed by Stripe. Stripe may handle card details, invoices, taxes, receipts, chargebacks, and subscription management for web purchases.

Billing page

The public billing and cancellation page is https://compcontroll.org/billing. It should be used for web billing management, cancellation help, receipts, and billing support.

Auto-renewal

Paid subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled before the renewal date through the billing surface that processed the purchase.

Trials and promotions

Trials, discounts, offer codes, and promotions may be limited to eligible users, devices, accounts, countries, platforms, or time periods. We may end or modify promotions as permitted by law.

Taxes

Prices may exclude applicable taxes, duties, exchange fees, or platform fees unless the checkout surface states otherwise.

User controls

Cancellation, Refunds, and Account Deletion

05

You may cancel renewal at any time through the billing surface used for purchase. Canceling renewal stops future charges but generally does not create an automatic refund for the current billing period unless required by law or allowed by the platform or payment processor.

Deleting an account does not automatically cancel an Apple subscription. Apple subscriptions must be canceled through Apple account subscription settings. Web subscriptions must be canceled through the web billing portal or support flow provided for the web purchase.

  • Apple refund requests are handled by Apple.
  • Stripe or web refund requests are handled through our support or billing process.
  • If you request account deletion, we may retain limited information for billing, security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and backup integrity.
  • If manual deletion is required, we will explain the expected timeline and confirm completion when required.

Safety rules

Acceptable Use

06

Remote control software can be powerful. You must use Direct Control Lab responsibly and lawfully. We may suspend, terminate, throttle, or investigate accounts, sessions, devices, or traffic that appear abusive, unsafe, fraudulent, or unlawful.

  • Do not access, control, monitor, test, scan, copy, or modify any computer, account, network, file, or data without authorization.
  • Do not use the service for stalking, harassment, coercion, surveillance, fraud, credential theft, phishing, malware, botnets, spam, or data exfiltration.
  • Do not bypass security controls, licensing systems, digital rights management, platform restrictions, account limits, or payment requirements.
  • Do not upload, transmit, or display illegal, infringing, deceptive, harmful, or abusive content through the service.
  • Do not interfere with the service, overload infrastructure, reverse engineer hosted systems, probe non-public endpoints, or attempt to defeat rate limits.
  • Do not use the service in high-risk environments where failure could cause death, personal injury, property damage, environmental harm, or critical infrastructure disruption.
  • Do not represent that Direct Control Lab is endorsed by Apple, Stripe, Vercel, Tailscale, or any other third party unless that party has authorized the representation.

Platform prompts

Device Permissions and User Responsibility

07

Some features require permissions from macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Windows, Linux, browsers, routers, firewalls, or mobile operating systems. You are responsible for granting, limiting, and revoking permissions in a way that matches your intended use.

Screen capture

The host device may require screen recording or display capture permission before a session can show the host screen.

Input control

Keyboard, pointer, accessibility, automation, or input-monitoring permissions may be required before a controller can operate the host.

Network access

Local network, firewall, VPN, WebRTC, TURN, relay, and browser permissions may affect connection quality or whether a session can start.

Camera and audio

Camera access may be used to scan a QR code. Microphone or system audio access should be requested only for features that need audio.

Clipboard and files

Clipboard sync or file transfer, if offered, should be used only with trusted devices and authorized users.

Reliability

Performance, Availability, and Changes

08

We work to make sessions reliable, fast, and secure, but remote control performance depends on hardware, operating-system permissions, browser behavior, codecs, encoders, decoders, Wi-Fi, cellular networks, firewalls, NAT behavior, relay capacity, battery settings, sleep settings, and third-party services.

Statements such as direct when possible, up to 120 FPS, or 4K+ describe supported configurations or goals, not a guarantee that every device, session, network, or plan will achieve those results.

  • The service may be unavailable during maintenance, incidents, upgrades, provider outages, abuse mitigation, or events outside our control.
  • We may add, remove, limit, or change features to improve the product, comply with law, protect users, or satisfy platform requirements.
  • Beta, preview, diagnostic, prototype, or experimental features may be changed or removed at any time and may be less reliable than production features.
  • You should maintain your own backups and avoid relying on the service as the sole way to access critical systems.

Data handling

Privacy, Security, and Session Content

09

Our Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, shared, and retained. By using the service, you acknowledge that remote sessions may display sensitive information and that you are responsible for what appears on the host device.

You must not use the service to collect, display, transmit, or store personal information unless you have a lawful basis and any required consent. If you use the service for work, school, customer support, or administration, you are responsible for providing notices and obtaining permissions required by your organization or applicable law.

Ownership

Intellectual Property and Feedback

10

Direct Control Lab, including its software, interfaces, designs, documentation, names, logos, and service content, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not transfer ownership of the service to you.

You may provide feedback, suggestions, bug reports, or ideas. You grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use that feedback without restriction or compensation, while we will not claim ownership of your underlying confidential information merely because you provided feedback.

  • Open-source components remain governed by their own licenses.
  • You may not copy, resell, sublicense, host, or provide the service to others except as allowed by the plan, documentation, or a written agreement.
  • You may not remove proprietary notices, license notices, or security controls.

Dependencies

Third-Party Services and Open Source

11

The service may interoperate with third-party services, SDKs, payment processors, app marketplaces, operating systems, browsers, network providers, open-source projects, and infrastructure providers. Their terms and privacy policies may apply to your use of those services.

Open-source notices are provided on the open-source notices page. Some third-party tools may be recommended for testing or deployment without being bundled into the app. Bundled components and redistributed binaries should be reviewed before production distribution.

Platform terms

Apple Platform Terms

12

If you download or purchase the app through an Apple marketplace, Apple's terms, marketplace rules, and purchase flows apply in addition to these Terms. Apple may process purchases, renewals, refunds, family sharing, receipts, and subscription management.

If the app is distributed through Apple, Apple's standard licensed application end user license agreement applies to the app license unless Apple displays a custom license agreement. The App License Terms page provides additional platform notices and service terms.

  • Apple purchase, renewal, refund, cancellation, and price-change consent controls are managed through the user's Apple account and Apple's purchase flows.
  • The app should provide an accessible restore-purchases control where Apple purchases are available.
  • Apple may be a third-party beneficiary of the App License Terms for Apple marketplace downloads.
  • Do not suggest that Apple endorses Direct Control Lab or is responsible for product support unless Apple has expressly authorized that statement.

Enforcement

Suspension and Termination

13

You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, create security risk, fail to pay, abuse the service, infringe rights, or use the service in a way that could harm users, us, or third parties.

After termination, sections that by their nature should survive will continue to apply, including payment obligations, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, dispute provisions, and restrictions on unauthorized use.

No warranty

Disclaimers

14

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided as is and as available without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, quiet enjoyment, accuracy, non-infringement, availability, and security.

We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, compatible with every device, available in every country, or able to maintain any particular frame rate, resolution, latency, connection route, or capture profile.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Risk allocation

Limitations of Liability

15

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Direct Control Lab and its affiliates, officers, employees, contractors, suppliers, and licensors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, business interruption, device damage, unauthorized access caused by your failure to secure credentials, or loss of goodwill.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for claims relating to the service will not exceed the amount you paid to us for the service during the three months before the event giving rise to the claim, or $100 if you paid nothing. This limitation does not limit liability that cannot be limited by law.

Your responsibility

Indemnity

16

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Direct Control Lab from claims, damages, liabilities, losses, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from your unauthorized use of the service, violation of these Terms, violation of law, infringement of third-party rights, or remote sessions you start or control.

Legal process

Governing Law and Disputes

17

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to the provider of the service, excluding conflict-of-law rules, unless consumer protection laws in your location require a different result. Courts or dispute bodies with proper jurisdiction may apply mandatory local consumer rights regardless of this section.

Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us and try to resolve the issue informally. We will try to resolve disputes through support, refund review, account review, or another reasonable process before either party begins formal proceedings.
